Lipedema Surgical Treatment

Lipedema surgical treatment involves a series of surgical procedures used to treat or relieve the symptoms of a medical condition called lipedema. Lipedema is a condition characterized by abnormal fat accumulation, especially in areas such as the hips, thighs, knees and ankles. This fat accumulation is often associated with hormones and occurs as a result of the accumulation of abnormal fat cells in the body. Lipedema is a condition that usually affects women.

Surgical treatment of lipedema may include the following basic methods:

Liposuction (Lipedema Liposuction):

Liposuction is the most commonly used type of surgical procedure in the treatment of lipedema. This procedure involves removing excess fatty tissue by vacuum suction.
It can be performed under local or general anesthesia, and fatty tissue is removed through thin incisions on the patient's body.
Liposuction aims to relieve lipedema symptoms and correct body shape. Removing excess fat can reduce pain and swelling.

Tumescent Liposuction:

Tumescent liposuction involves injecting large amounts of a type of liquid (tumescent solution) under the skin during the liposuction procedure. This fluid swells the fatty tissue and allows the surgeon to remove the fat more easily.
Tumescent liposuction reduces the risk of bleeding and is considered a safer option for treating lipedema.
Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction:

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction ensures better breakdown of fat tissue by applying ultrasound waves to the liposuction process. This method can be used to remove stubborn lipedema fat.
Surgical treatment of lipedema can relieve lipedema symptoms, improve body shape, and reduce pain. However, these treatments do not completely eliminate the risk of lipedema and are not intended to prevent fat reaccumulation. Treatment options and procedures should be determined based on the patient's condition and wishes. Post-treatment rehabilitation process and long-term follow-up are also important. When it comes to surgical treatment of lipedema, it is important to collaborate with a healthcare professional to discuss treatment options and create a personalized plan.
